First Floor
of Parish School, built in 1941
Over the summer of 1941 the first floor of the school construction
was completed. Described as a thoroughly modern and completely-
fireproof structure of reinforced concrete, faced with brick and
trimmed in Wilkerson stone, it had four classrooms and administration
offices on one floor. Headed by Sister Matthew Mary, the principal,
five Sisters of Providence staffed the school. One hundred and
eighty-five students attended the first year.
