ARCHBISHOP ETIENNE STATEMENT ON RACISM MAY 29, 2020   (LINK)

PRAYER TO OVERCOME RACISM

Mary, friend and mother to all, through your Son, God has found a
way to unite himself to every human being, called to be one people,
sisters and brothers to each other.

We ask for your help in calling on your Son, seeking forgiveness for
times when we have failed to love and respect one another.

We ask for your help in obtaining from your Son the grace we need
to overcome the evil of racism and to build a just society.

We ask for your help in following your Son, so that prejudice and
animosity will no longer infect our minds or hearts but will be
replaced with a love that respects the dignity of each person.

Mother of the Church, the Spirit of your Son Jesus warms our hearts: pray for us.  Amen

CHURCH IS BE OPEN FOR PRIVATE PRAYER:

Tuesdays, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Fridays, 10:00 am - Noon
Some Saturdays, 2:00 - 5:00 pm - please see the front page of the website for updates

THREE SEMINARIANS WILL MOVE ON TO THEIR NEXT STEP TO PRIESTHOOD

MICHAEL BARBAROSSA: Saturday, June 13; Closed to public; Bishop Daniel Mueggenborg presiding.

VAL PARK: Saturday, June 20, at 10 am; Livestreamed on @SeattleVocations Facebook; Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, presiding.

KYLE POJE: Saturday, July 4, 10 am; Closed to public; Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, presiding.

Deacons are a living example of service to others through ministry of word, liturgy, and charity. Men who are preparing for the priesthood are ordained “transitional” deacons the year before they are ordained priests. Those not planning to be ordained priests are called “permanent” deacons, and go through a different formation process.

For more details and latest updates on the ordination, go to the Seattle Vocations blog:

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM WEEK

Beginning June 22, the Feast of Saints Thomas More and John Fisher, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops celebrates Religious Freedom Week. Join us in promoting religious freedom For the Good of All.

All people desire to know their Creator. All people have a natural impulse to seek the good and to live in accordance with that good. All people can flourish when they pursue the truth about God and respond to the truth.

CYO UPDATE ON SUMMER CAMP

In consultation with Church leadership, CDC, and community health resources, CYO camp officials have made the tough and disappointing decision not to have camp this summer given the current Covid-19 situation.  For those families who have already registered and paid their fee, you have the option of
1. Donating that money to camp to off-set costs for the coming year.
2. Applying the funds to camp for summer 2021

3. Requesting a refund.

CYO looks forward to a safe and happy 2021.  For more information please view the CYO video  (LINK):

I-1698 THE HEARTBEAT INITIATIVE

The bishops of Washington state support I-1698 and encourage parishioners to gather petition signatures.  I-1698 is a pro-life initiative requiring that an ultrasound be performed prior to an abortion.  Abortions will be prohibited if a fetal heartbeat is detected.

“WAYS TO BE CATHOLIC AND POLITICALLY ACTIVE”

The Influence of Catholic Social Teaching on Our Political System
June 3, 2020, 7- 8:30pm
Presenter: TBD Connect with other young adults and delve into how we as Catholics in Western Washington rely on Catholic Social Teaching to advocate for legislation that is committed to the poor through our belief that every human being is created in the image of God.

Civil Discourse in the 21st Century
July 1, 2020, 7- 8:30pm
Presenter: TBD Explore how we as Catholics can engage in respectful and open dialogue with those whose political, ideological and religious views may differ from our own. How can Catholics take part in civil conversation, to grow in wisdom and knowledge, to learn about contemporary social issues? Can or should Catholics try to influence or sway the beliefs of others?

Faith-Filled Service to God’s People
August 5, 2020, 7- 8:30pm
Panel conversation: Mario Villanueva, Mark Miloscia, and Rebecca Saldana Join a lively panel discussion with Catholics who have lived a life of public service and learn: • How political life has shaped or influenced their faith journeys. • How elected officials integrate Catholic Social Teaching into their own mission. • How their relationship with God impels them to truly love one another as God has loved us.

ARCHDIOCESAN PARISHIONER SURVEY FOR PASTORAL PLANNING (LINK)

Prior to the pandemic, Archbishop Etienne began an long-term pastoral planning process.   As part of that process,  all practicing lay Catholics in the Archdiocese are invited to complete an online survey that seeks to better understand the experiences, beliefs, needs, desires and faith trajectories of Catholics across western Washington.   Your responses are anonymous and confidential.  Locate the link on the front page of our parish website or go to  CatholicSurvey2020.org.
