IMPORTANT NOTICE:  The St. Catherine Women’s Retreat for November 2020 has been cancelled.  The Palisades Retreat Center, where our retreats have been held, has cancelled all in-person events through 2020.  We do have a retreat scheduled for November 2021.  Let’s hope that the pandemic has passed by then!

BEREAVED PARENTS SUPPORT GROUP

Recognizing that our culture does not prepare for the loss of a child, we provide a safe environment for parents to express their feelings regarding their child’s life, death, grieving, reactions of family, friends, and acquaintances. We are not a substitute for professional grief counseling but do provide mutual support with others that share their grief and are at various stages of resolution. We are Catholic-Christian in our orientation but welcome any grieving parent. We meet on the 3rd Monday of every month at St. Bridget’s Church. Contact: Liz Houlihan, 206-527-1393, lizbethhoulihan@gmail.com

AN UPDATE ON CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICES' COVID RESPONSE

Dear Faith Community Partner,

Thank you for your continued support of Catholic Community Services and the communities we serve together.  We last updated you in March when the pandemic crisis was beginning. We wanted to send another update about the work we are doing to respond to the Coronavirus in our shelters, day centers, and programs.

In mid-March Catholic Community Services began placing our shelter guests into motels and shifted away from our traditional congregate shelter model.  We are currently supporting clients in 5 motels across King County.  We also opened 3 additional social distance shelter sites and increased hours at our Day Centers in Kent and Federal Way. This has allowed us to respond to the increased need in the community and to reduce the impact of Coronavirus on their health.  We found the funding to move people into motels so they can have a separate place to protect themselves. However, while the people have a place to stay, they didn’t have food resources.

The community, especially our faith partners, have been critical to our response by supporting with meals and food donations.  We estimate that in the past 5 months over 30,000 meals were donated which helped to keep our programs open and responsive.  As we continue our Coronavirus response and brace for a possible resurgence in cases, we are in need of additional meal and food support.  If your congregation or community is able to help provide meals, please contact us.  Our King Co. Network Builder, Erin Maguire (ErinMa@ccsww.org or 206-327-2474) can work with you about how to best partner at this time.  We particularly need support in our hotels in Seattle and Kirkland, our day centers in Kent and Federal Way, and our women’s shelter in Seattle.

Thank you so much for your partnership with us….   We are committed to continuing to welcome and serve everyone who needs our services. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions…..

Sincerely,
Bill Hallerman
Agency Director
Catholic Community Services of King County

Non-Sanctioned Catholic Voting Materials Are Circulating

The Catholic Church supports public policies that serve the common good and are aligned with our Church teachings. The Catholic Church does not endorse candidates or political parties. You may encounter websites, sources, or mailers that claim to be Catholic. However, they may not be officially aligned with or sanctioned by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). If a source tells you to support a specific candidate or political party, it is most certainly not officially aligned with the Catholic Church. For information about national public policy, please refer to the USCCB website. Please consult the Washington State Catholic Conference(WSCC) for information about state and local public policies. When considering political candidates’ views on public policies, we recommend reading Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States.

ARCHDIOCESAN PARISHIONER SURVEY FOR PASTORAL PLANNING (LINK)

Prior to the pandemic, Archbishop Etienne began an long-term pastoral planning process.   As part of that process,  all practicing lay Catholics in the Archdiocese are invited to complete an online survey that seeks to better understand the experiences, beliefs, needs, desires and faith trajectories of Catholics across western Washington.   Your responses are anonymous and confidential.  Locate the link on the front page of our parish website or go to  CatholicSurvey2020.org.

Divine Mercy

In the Second Greatest Story Ever Told

A Virtual Retreat with Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC

Father Michael Gaitley, MIC, is director of Evangelization for the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception and director of Formation for the Marian Missionaries of Divine Mercy.

In partnership with the Augustine Institute, Fr. Gaitley has produced a beautiful 10 part series, titled Divine Mercy: In The Second Greatest Story Ever Told, tracing God's story of mercy across the ages.

The series tells the dramatic history of God's love and mercy as interwoven through the transformative message of St. Faustina, the miraculous appearance of Mary at Fatima, the witness of Maximilian Kolbe, and the world-changing papacy of Pope St. John Paul II.

The Archbishop Brunett Retreat Center is excited to transform this high-quality series into a virtual retreat. The retreat will be free to anyone with access to FORMED through their parish.

To register:
1. CLICK HERE to register now!  We will send you an example retreat schedule that you can follow or make your own, and a study guide with reflection questions for each presentation.  Since St. Catherine has our own subscription, after registering, then go to step two.
